1918年，苏联十月社会主义革命刚胜利不久，红军战士萨维列夫去莫斯科途中，在一个小车站上被反革命分子暗杀。儿子瓦夏和彼加刚刚失去母亲，现在又失去父亲，孤苦无依，辗转流浪到莫斯科。列宁和捷尔任斯基遇到这两个孩子，将他们收留并加以照顾。而此时，革命虽然取得胜利，但帝国主义对新生的苏维埃政权异常仇视，颠覆革命成果的阴谋仍在进行。反革命分子亚尔采夫伪装身份，混进苏维埃肃反委员会，指使人打伤了列宁，同时欺骗瓦夏和彼加，利用他们将藏有炸药、雷管的图书搬到车站粮食仓库，企图将仓库炸毁。千钧一发之际，敌人的阴谋被发现，反革命分子受到严惩。此后，在列宁和捷尔任斯基的关怀下，瓦夏和彼加成长为勇敢的红军战士。

七十年代轰动中国的纪录片，亿万国人记忆中的奋斗精神！在河南省的最北端，一个被称为林县的名不见经传的小地方因为一条水渠而闻名全国。这条悬崖峭壁上开凿的总长1500公里的大渠，被人们称为人造天河，它叫红旗渠。有一部与这条水渠同名的电影详细记录了当时修建的过程并于1971年在全国播出。红旗渠从1960年开始动工，一修十年，而电影《红旗渠》也跟拍了十年。拍摄这部纪录片的电影人制作了他们电影生涯中耗时最长、投入最多的一部纪录电影。十年间到底有多少人参加了《红旗渠》的摄制已经说不清楚，但在十年中他们共留下了一万多尺胶片。当年，周恩来总理曾自豪地对国际人言说，新中国有两个奇迹：一个是南京长江大桥、一个是林县红旗渠。
